1797 Angusshire, Dundee; Alexander Swap & Co. James Wright Jr’s Copper Halfpenny. This variety, a late addition to the Dalton & Hamer finding it’s way into the original addenda section on p.547. Struck from a later die with large cud formed, almost preventing it’s attribution. This can be identified as 21bis by the larger than usual gap between the R of JUNR and the D of DES; also the position of the I in ANCIENT is lower than that of the standard 21 variety. Whether this could be a 21bis II will be forever hidden behind the cud! Mostly even brown with some small patches of toning.

Rarity – RR, Very rare
