LAST DRUID

LOT 431 Group of Newton Copper Farthing Varieties (3)

Inferior Tokens of the 18th Century, Evasions

Isaac Newton, Evasion farthing, 2.38g; Cobwright I0050 / F0020, as Middlesex D&H 1154. An interesting series demonstrating how the same dies can almost appear as three very different varieties. A fairly broad planchet, 3.17g; a smaller but heavier middle variety at 3.94g; with the last, much smaller at 2.33g. This shows how one can not only trace die-progression by standard methods but also by having the added dimension of type of blanks used. These are rather easily obtainable but certain there are more variations that could be brought together for study. About fine. (3)
