LOT 10 Anglesey Mines Copper Penny D&H 255
Tokens of Wales, Eighteenth Century
Amlwch, Parys Mines Company; D&H 255, Boulton’s penny struck in copper, 27.96g. The only penny struck by Matthew Boulton and the Soho Mint. Many thousands of these varieties were made – the very early ones, which are very scarce, were struck with high rims and are a joy to behold. The majority of the production run appear to show gradually failing edges like the example listed. The sharpness around the rims become folded inwards, not helped by the weight of the press which, in this instance, has created a slightly concave effect. About extremely fine.
