Northumberland, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, John Bell; Davis 32, pattern farthing struck in lead, 9.46g , 24.22mm. Davis 32 / Batty Unlisted – this piece. A piece listed by Davis as being in the possession of Macfayden, as a style comparable to those listed in the previous lots. As made . RRR.

This is in white metal, and of fine workmanship. It is located in consequence of its
similarity in make and material to Bell’s tokens, and is with a Newcastle-on-Tyne collector.

Provenance: Ex-F.S. Cokayne Collection, purchased from F.W. Bowman in 1926, for the large sum of 68 shillings. Bowman had purchased from F.E. Macfayden Collection, Sotherby’s, July 1908. D.T. Batty Collection and, by Davis’ note from Batty, that he acquired from the executors of the issuer, John Bell, sometime after his death in 1864.
