Northumberland, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, John Bell; Davis 27, lead trial / pattern, farthing sized 24mm, 7.11g. TURK’S HEAD / A PRODDY. Davis states that this variety held in the British Museum. Their specimen still present in the archive under museum number T-6827. As struck, exceedingly rare, likely only the second of this variety in extant.

Provenance: Ex-F.S. Cokayne Collection, purchased from F.W. Bowman in 1926, for the large sum of 68 shillings. Bowman had purchased from F.E. Macfayden Collection, Sotherby’s, July 1907. Davis cites the BM for this variety and possibly not therefore in Batty Collection.
