LOT 272 Lothian Edinburgh Hutchinson Halfpenny DH 48, Scarce
18th Century Provincial Tokens, Lothian
Edinburgh, Issuer Uncertain; D&H 48, halfpenny struck in copper, 12.81g. Imitation issue. The D&H plate shows as being struck on an unusual shaped planchet and, going by this example, is due to the edge, which should belong to Liverpool’s Thomas Clarke (CLACKE in this instance), but smoothed and rounded with most of the edge device barely visible. Slight planchet clip to the obverse at 11 o’clock otherwise attractive reflective fields and original colour, scarce. About extremely fine.
