Not Local, France Louis Rex; D&H 1003, Skidmore’s halfpenny struck in copper, 6.52g. Evasive issue, struck on a small, rounded edge flan. Crude issue despite being signed by JAMES, one of the very finest engravers of the entire period. Reverse with some soft centres otherwise very fine, obverse better. Very rare.

 

Provenance : Note – not as nice as the P.C. Deane example which was sold for £380 (pre BP).
