Lot 192 – Middlesex Spence halfpenny D&H 806, Brass? Ex-Spence/Fawcett/Litman/Longman
Cobwright Collection of Thomas Spence, Part II, Middlesex
Middlesex, Little Turnstile, Thomas Spence; D&H 806, halfpenny struck in copper. Described in the DNW sale as brass but the collector questions this assessment, stating possibly gilded. The edge is more “brassy”. What is certain, is the patchy toned reverse against a very lustrous obverse. Three edges with three different stories. Good very fine. Very rare.
