Lot 321 – Milton’s Ayrshire Ayr pattern halfpenny D&H 5, Rare
18th Century Provincial Tokens of Scotland, Ayrshire
Ayrshire, Ayr, William Fullerton; D&H 5, Milton’s pattern halfpenny. An strangely heavily circulated example of what is normally a pattern piece. Obverse cud indicating a slightly later striking. No dents, scratches or knocks. Perhaps a pocket, which would explain the softness of such a circulated piece, despite not actually being redeemable by the time this was issued. Curious. A bold very good. Rare.
