Lot 97 – Lincolnshire Spalding halfpenny D&H 5, Gem, double-struck
18th Century Provincial Tokens of England, Lincolnshire
Lincolnshire, Spalding, Thomas Jennings; D&H 5 – Var, halfpenny struck in copper. Fascinating piece. Firstly struck then the dies rotated about 120 degrees, then struck again. For example, the S of SPALDING can be seen again above the lions head. No post-strike handling but rather choice red and brown surfaces, allowing for the error to be seen with much clarity. Unusual and as struck. Rare.
